Assignment - Which is better New or Old Anime (What I found out from social media)

Anime has come along way in the last 40 years and has drastically changed the world, especially in the west in recent years, anime ahs only just recently became popular for us over here in the west however that does not always mean that its better than what it was like before we knew it existed, animes main origin started in japan in the 1960s this was its eastern rise to power, with this assignment I decided to try and get a answer to which anime is better new or old and of course I knew that the answer I found could never be factual, first of all I want to tell you how I feel about the question and hat my opinion on the subject is then I’m going to tell you what I found out by using different social media websites.

First of all my opinion on the subject, over the last 3 years since I first discovered anime after searching for 10 years for a certain anime called shaman king, I got into anime and started religiously watching anime, researching it and becoming very interested in the media and anything around the subject, I would even gone as far to say it has changed my life its the base of a lot of my art and I take allot of inspiration form anime, but not just form the art the stories and characters as well, I have watched a huge variety of animes both new and old and in total have seen over 170 different animes ranging form small 12 episode animes to large 700 plus animes that were created form the 1970s to modern day, so I feel I am qualified to give my opinion on this subject.

As a person who watches anime both new and old religiously, I feel I can give a valid opinion on both although allot of people judge anime on the art style, I know that I have seen an image for an anime and not liked the character design or art style and just immediately rejected it were as after I’ve read a description for the anime despite the art style if I’ve been intrigued by the story ill still give it a try even if the art style is horrendous, I remember some time ago I found an anime called toradora and the main character in my opinion looked like a human shark but I was interested in the story so I gave it a go and it turned out to be brilliant so it shows you cant judge a book by its cover.

For me I think bot have great shows with great art style that I will remember for years to come however if I had to pick on or the other id have to say old anime, my favourite animes is once piece created in 1999 although is not as old as some is still classed as an old anime and has kept the same art style until the 450th episode which was 8 years after its release, and with the story of one piece it always revolved around one singular cast of characters and one main character, the creator knew what he wanted to create and he knew how to produce it I believe the original one piece was and still is the perfect combo of art style, characters and story so based on just that id have to say my personal favourite is old art animes because as I mentioned before its the inspiration to any new anime.

Now for what I found out form you guys, I researched data form Pintrest and twitter and create polls so that I could find out not only what animes you guys like best but what era they came from and what art style those animes use, to find this I created polls using twitter with help from Pintrest and choose both ne wand old animes so that you guys can ick which ones you like best, I created numerous polls usually one every day since the assignment began, I posted a total of 20 polls over the course of the project and these range from choices of characters, to different genres to simple new vs. old anime choices.

I took a risk only using the polls to find my answer however I felt it was a risk that would pay off although it gave me a variety of results it gave me, after adding up the polls I found that out of the 20 polls i posted 13 of them voted new animes are best and 10 old animes are best, however 4 of said polls were draw so I gave points to both, as I first thought when I started the project the answer will be near enough even, I got a mixed amount of responses and overall it really does depend on the anime that is placed in the poll, form what I found out its not the age that matters for an anime to be popular and its not even the art style although it ahs an impact, what it is the story behind it an the idea of the anime most of the animes that won the polls where world renowned series and had massive fan bases this leads me to believe even more so that there is never going to be a definite answer for my question I’m more sure of that now than I was at the start of the assignment, its all abort the individuals preference.

What I found out form this project is that anime is not defined by its age its all about its stories and immersive backgrounds, there are plenty or new and old animes that are just plain awful story and art however there are also gems such as cowboy bebop, gundam, Tokyo ghoul, one piece and naruto and these are classed as the best because of there stories, art and characters and they are popular because the fans have gathered together and like the same thing, in a way its like a territory war who ever has the biggest following wins and those who have small will be forgotten, but those with large Following will thrive and still be remembered for years to come.
