Assignment - Which is better Old or New Anime (Social media websites and what I did and didn't u

In previous blogs I gave you a introduction into what I’m trying to achieve from this Assignment and I gave you some information on different anime styles and genres so that if you are new to the whole anime and media world you will be able to understand some of what I am saying.

For this Assignment we were told to pick a subject/question we had a particular interests in and try our best to answer or come up with a good theory using help and information gathered form social media websites such as Facebook and twitter, as you know my question is anime related and its in the form of a 2 sided argument this was my choice however I know of some who are doing the same assignment who have gone for a more linear question which has just the singular debate for example asking what will happen t a certain franchise in 2 years you can only debate what you think it will be like in 2 years because the question states that where as my question ahs 2 sides and goes of pure preference, but I’m getting off topic lets get back to the matter at hand.

Out of the numerous choices of social media websites I had to choose from I decided to stick with 2 as my main uses for research and one as kind of a try out session because I didn’t know if id get much data form it, these websites were

• Twitter

• Facebook

• Pintrest

After looking at a list of various other sites and checking them out individually I chose these 3 because I thought id benefit most form using them, now for what I did on each of them Twitter is a social media website where users tweet short sentences and post pictures when I first saw this is wasn’t too sure about using it but after further inspection I found that you could post polls on your wall, and with the polls I was able to create up to 4 choices for my followers to vote on which they think is better and this was great for my question.

I looked at Facebook already knowing quite allot about this website already, I decided to cerate a separate page dedicated to this question or my websites domain name and base the question under that, after posting things on both twitter and Facebook to try and get some responses and feedback i instantly found that Facebook is useless when trying to answer questions such as this unless you already have a huge following, if id of started the project a year ago and Began building a reputation and following then maybe id of been able to use it, however this was not the case where as with twitter it was very easy to gain a following after just 2 weeks I managed to gain 700 followers which astonished me, with this is was able to get great results.

Onto my final website that I use know Pintrest is a little bit different form Facebook and twitter, Pintrest is a website were you can select and gather images that you find and create collaborations of those images, I used Pintrest to gather images of old and new anime series and find the majority of each series, I also used it to find anime seasons that I could use in polls on twitter to gather results, by doing this I was able to find out which animes people on twitter liked best after having 2 old anime choices and 2 new anime and repeat certain animes on other polls as choices, I could gather information on whether they liked old anime or new anime better and this was exactly what I needed to answer or attempt to answer my question.

Now the other 2 websites out of the 5 I picked at the start of the project, are instagram and deviant art after looking at these 2 last and having already decided which I was going too use, I didn’t feel I needed to do too much research into them however if I could use them to my advantage I would include them, so first I started with deviant art.

Deviant art is a website where people are able to post there finished and unfinished pieces of art on the website, its regarded as the worlds largest online art gallery and after just hearing that I didn’t think id have much use out of it for this particular project and after inspection I found I was correct, its a great website for showing of your work and looking at other peoples art however as far as answering a question and getting a good following and gaining responses to said responses its pretty useless, so I decided to not use this website as I felt it had the same problem as Facebook.

And last was instagram, instagram form what I gathered was kind of a mix between Pintrest and twitter you post your work and some messages and they are thrown onto a wall for all to see, but after further inspection I found that its quite a cool little website what you can do is use instagram to share work o other social media websites such as Facebook and twitter and this is defiantly a good way to gather a following because your not just limited to the users of one website you can now have access to multiple and for answering a question such as mine it could be beneficial, however my question is an opinion based one and cannot have a definite answer so although it would be great for finding an answer I felt using twitter and Pintrest was enough.

The reason for this is because of how quickly I managed to gather 700 followers in 2 weeks when I first looked at instagram I had around 200 followers and already I thought this is enough I can get a good variety of answers, plus I didn’t want to over complicate things by having a million different results and opinions that I had no possibility of collaborating together, so in the end I didn’t use instagram however if I was given a longer project of similar nature to this one I would definitely consider using it as it would be able to get me a much bigger following that a 700.

Throughout this assignment I researched 5 different social media websites, in the end I completed the project suing 2 and dropping one have way into the assignment and for only having 2 or 3 weeks I feel I have gathered enough evidence and opinions form you guys, so that someone perhaps me in the future can dig deeper into the question and maybe find out more about different aspects of said question for example which art style is more profitable/cheaper to use this could have a answer because its not opinion based and hopefully if someone does do something similar what I have done over the last 3 weeks will help a bit, however for now that’s it for me on the which is better Old or new anime.
